Coventry Moves opens City of Culture programme

Updated: Dec 16, 2020

“Coventry Moves” is the spectacular opening event planned for Coventry City of Culture that’s scheduled to launch on Saturday 15 May 2021.

Co-directed by Justine Themen and Nigel Jamieson and “made with the people of Coventry”, Coventry Moves will create a powerful and diverse vision of the city’s future, forged with its people and from its history. The city centre will be transformed, rising from adversity in a spectacular performance, a celebration and a collective movement.

There are still opportunities to get involved – as a performer, a maker, an enthusiast or in a role behind the scenes – to be part of this once in a lifetime experience.

Coventry is the city where movement began, from innovation in the transport industry to a history of activism. It is a city that has moved people for centuries. For a whole year, Coventry will celebrate its heritage and culture with events, music, dance, theatre, and large-scale spectacle.

As well as these big celebrations, the city will show its unexpected side, with more intimate experiences and ways to get involved across every ward of the city.

And it’s not just Coventry. This celebration will see the entire region get involved and benefit from the opportunities that being City of Culture brings.

To find out more about getting involved and to get tickets for Coventry Moves, sign up to the Coventry City of Culture 2021 newsletter.
